US Applications Training and Masterclass

Our next Teacher Training Day is on Monday 23rd September 2019.

This year, for the first time, we are also hosting a number of Public Research Universities from the USA to address attendees in a Q&A format. Speakers will include Catherine Charlton of Rutgers University. You can read more about the Panel Event here . Please register via the button below - the training is not compulsory in order to attend the Panel Event.

The event will be sponsored by and held at the offices of Florida State University , 99 Great Russell Street, WC1B 3LH, and will comprise the following optional sessions:

  • A Guide to the US Application Process for Schools (Advisor level: beginner) 11am - 4pm
  • US College Applications Masterclass (Advisor level: intermediate to advanced) 1pm  - 4pm
  • US Public Research Universities Panel Event (open to all) 4.30pm - 6.30pm
  • Complimentary drinks reception for all attendees 6.30pm onwards

A Guide to the US Application Process for Schools

Jason Smith, founder of UES, will take you through our comprehensive guide to US Applications. The day is designed to help you plan the provision in your school and understand all of the aspects of US Applications in depth, including:

  • Promoting US applications within the school
  • Guiding students on college choice

  • The Common Application and other university portals

US Applications Masterclass with David Hawkins of Hawkins Global Education

David Hawkins is one of the best known US applications advisors in Europe. He spent four years as Head of US Applications and Head of Careers at Taunton School and then two years as Head of College and Careers Counselling at the International School of Brussels, before setting up Hawkins Global Education. This masterclass is aimed at advisors who have some experience of managing US applications at their school. This session includes:

  • Raising the profile of US applications provision to students, parents, and staff
  • Building the case for US applications provision within the school
  • Effective data management and resource-building
  • Motivating, guiding, and managing students
  • Managing teachers and their obligations
  • Improving letters of recommendation
  • Delivering successful HE events
