School Fairs and Networking Events

Friday 8th November 2024

Headed into London in November for the National Association for College Admission Counseling college fair? To help university reps make the most of their time here, Halcyon London International School and Wetherby Senior School in collaboration with UES are delighted to announce two school fairs and an info session/networking event, on Friday 8 November 2024 (the day before the NACAC fair) from 12:00 to 4:30pm.

The school fairs are a great opportunity for reps to meet teachers and students at two schools with lots of international applicants and raise your profile! The networking event at UES is for both university reps and school counsellors, and will be a great opportunity to meet and collaborate, as well as having a fun afternoon of drinks and refreshments with colleagues.

Please see below the timings of the fairs:

  • 12:00 to 1:00pm Halcyon London International School
  • 1:15 to 2:15pm Wetherby Senior School
  • 2:30 to 4:30pm UES Offices

**All locations are in Marylebone, London, and reps will be accompanied between locations (all within walking distance of each other).

INTERNATIONAL ADVISORS' REGIONAL DISCUSSION FORUMS 2024


These events are organised by The University Guys, Unifrog and UES Education, with the ambition of bringing together schools in each region of the UK to discuss their provision for international university advising.

Each forum will include rosters of expert speakers to keep you up-to-date on developments in the field, provide opportunities for discussion, and encourage teachers to share knowledge and best practice. It's also a great way for you to meet your fellow advisors in nearby schools! These events will be free to all participating schools, but the number of places will be limited so we advise booking at your earliest convenience to save your place.

Our next Teacher Training Day will be on Wednesday 20th March 2024. This event is aimed at teachers who handle US applications, including Overseas Universities Advisors, Heads of Careers, and Heads of Sixth Form, and includes physical training. The event will be held in-person and online, in an interactive format. It will comprise the following sessions (all times in UK time):

  • A Guide to the US Application Process for Schools (Advisor level: beginner to intermediate): 11am-4pm
  • Catered Lunch (and informal chance to connect with colleagues): 1-2pm

Our next Mock Admissions Event will take place in-person at Wetherby Senior School, Bulstrode Building, Marylebone, London on Wednesday 20th March 2024!

This is our major annual event for students, attended by over 100 students, parents and teachers. Tickets are  completely free for student s and £10 for an accompanying parent (there is a limit of one parent per student). Tickets for teachers cost   £45 + VAT (including a catered dinner/drinks reception 7.30pm-8.30pm). 

College Counselling: How to Support Students Applying to International Universities

Jason Smith (Founder of UES) and Simon Lewis (co-founder of UES and University Advisor at the American School in London) discuss the important elements of successful international university applications, especially to American colleges. They will explain what to consider, how to prepare properly and in good time, and the myths around testing and other aspects. They will also discuss why people should consider getting external support, and how to assess whether a college counsellor has the skills and contacts necessary to do a good job.

This interactive, fun evening is aimed at students thinking of applying to the US, their parents, and any teachers or school counsellors who deal with US applications. It will involve a mock admissions activity in small groups, where students and parents play the part of an admissions officer choosing between students applying to the different colleges. This allows them to get a deep insight into how admissions officers make their decisions, which gives students a big advantage when it comes to making their US applications.

Pitfalls and Strategies when Applying to the Most Selective US Universities
